Place the following ingredients in blender and blend on high speed until completely smooth, put feet up and sip away!

•2 cups spinach, fresh or frozen
•2 cups refrigerated coconut water, unsweetened
•1 frozen banana
•1 cup frozen pineapple
•1 cup carrots, uncooked, frozen
•2 tablespoons chia seeds

Leafy greens, like spinach, are PACKED with iron.  Iron intake is one of the best ways to keep your blood healthy, and it also does a decent job boosting your immune system–both are necessary during pregnancy.  Magnesium, also found in spinach, is necessary for tissue growth and repair, and both your bodies’ tissues are working overtime during your term.  Calcium, found in leafy greens, helps create healthy bones and a healthy heart, and your baby needs both! Use spinach and other leafy greens if you aim to consume calcium in non-dairy forms.  Many B vitamins are helpful during pregnancy and vitamin B6 in particular is important for these two important reasons: creating new red blood cells and antibodies for baby, and aiding in healthy brain development.

Carrots and spinach are good fiber sources to keep you regular during pregnancy, as well as lowering your blood pressure. Fiber is good for your baby, but even better for you!

Chia seeds {omega 3s} can help maintain baby’s delicate brain development in the womb. Consuming omega 3s is one of the best ways to help your baby’s brain, and can help you experiment with getting them in other ways if you are avoiding fish.

Potassium- found in spinach, coconut water, bananas and carrots- does a variety of things for your body: maintains electrolyte balance, sends nerve impulses, helps muscles to contract, and helps to capitalize on potential energy from fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. Who doesn’t need an energy boost when pregnant?  Enjoy!
